The Footage includes a great deal of content including a robbery at a waffle house and more all in this supposed GTA VI.
Leaks are not fun. Developers toil night after night ensuring that the product is ready for the unscrupulous and often cruel eye of the public. Game development is tough in all regards and on average the game doesn’t really look like a complete piece until they are about 90% of the way there, and even then that’s not necessarily consistent. Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have recently suffered one of the biggest and most widespread leaks in the industry ever.
Of course we heard rumours of a ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ style game where the two playable characters bounce off each other and share that kind of relationship. But now we have footage, source code and more, because of Teapotuberhacker who essentially attempted to convince the GTAForums that the leaks were in fact real.
The leaks contain a wide variety of details ranging from the fact that the GTA VI seems to be set in Vice City which GTA fans will be very familiar with. Not only this but we saw many details regarding the characters with the evidence of two playable protagonists and the series’ first female protagonist. In addition to this the footage also shows off dialogue options similar to those of Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as a few placeholder assets such as a cop car that has ‘V.C.P.D’ written on the side.
Now many may be wondering what these leaks mean. Well, it is very clear that GTA VI is in a pre-alpha state and probably wasn’t going to be shown to the public for many years. It is unclear what the impact of this leak will be but many developers voicing their thoughts on twitter. Neil Druckmann in particular shared this:
In essence, the leaks aren’t good really for anybody. They are demoralising for developers, and ultimately detracts from both the quality and time needed for the product. GTA VI will most probably be delayed further due to the scale of this leak and ultimately cause more problems than solutions.
Regardless, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have both stated that GTA VI “is determined to once again Set creative benchmarks for the series” and I have the utmost faith that they will do it. As Neil Druckmann stated earlier regarding the Rockstar Developers: “Keep pushing. Keep making art.”
