Velan Studios have announced that Knockout City will be receiving its final content update as servers will shut down later this year.
The developers of Knockout City, Velan Studios, have announced that the game’s next seasonal update, will sadly be its last. However, the developers have also stated that the content coming in its Season 9 update will send the game off with a bang when servers shut down later this year.
For those of you who don’t know, Knockout City is a multiplayer action game that is mostly known for its unique setting. The game is set in a city that is a massive playground for dodgeball. The game was originally released in May 2021 and was a part of the EA Originals program. The game was met with a generally positive reception. However, this wasn’t enough to keep it aloft and the game has seemingly met the same fate as other smaller EA live-service titles.
Jeremy Russo, the Game Director for Knockout City, announced in a blog post on the game’s website, that Season 9 will be the final season of original content coming to the game. He then said that the servers will be shutting down on 6 June 2023, only 2 years after the game’s launch. The director then went on to praise all the creativity and work that went into the game and also thanked players for sticking with the game. While Knockout City had many crossovers and a loyal player base, the live-service model was just too much for the small studio to handle.
The content coming to Season 9 of Knockout City will start on 28 February and will go on for 12 weeks until the final event when servers shut down. During this time all “real-money” purchases will be removed, there will be a massive sale on in-game cosmetics, and Holobux rewards will be plentiful. Velan Studios have also said that they will be working on a private server for fans to enjoy.
While the news that Knockout City will be shutting down servers is disheartening, Velan Studios will be taking it as a lesson for future projects. Knockout City will be available until June 6 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
