Krafton, the publisher, appears to have made the adjustment in July.
“PlayerUnknown’s Battleground” (PUBG) currently goes by the moniker “PUBG: Battlegrounds.” Technically, it’s now known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds. “ATM machine” seems ridiculous, yet there’s some rationale to the selection. A week of free-to-play PUBG: Battlegrounds is being offered to celebrate the game’s cooperation with K-pop superstars Blackpink. Playing between August 10th and 16th is free.
In spite of the fact that many players have referred to the original PUBG as PUBG for years, it makes sense to distinguish it a little. Especially for those who don’t know who PlayerUnknown is, the rebranding also moves the game away from its similarly confusing prior title. “PlayerUnknown” Greene created an ARMA 2 mod and subsequently led the creation of PUBG, which launched the battle royale craze. He retired from the sport in 2019. But Krafton could have given the tremendously popular game any other name instead of a new, uncomfortable one, if it had wanted to. Would have been preferable to use the title simply “PUBG,” “OG,” or “PUBG: Where Are We Dropping?” Mobile title PUBG: New State will be the next title in the series. Also linked to the Dead Space franchise is The Callisto Protocol, a horror game developed by the same team as Dead Space. The PUBG prefix hasn’t yet been added to the name, but it’s on its way. It’s possible Krafton may use that week to test the waters and evaluate player reactions before making the game permanently free-to-play. .
Battle royale games such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone are all free to play.
