PSN has been experiencing mysterious interruptions for over six hours.
Sony’s PSN experienced a major crisis in April 2011 due to unauthorized access, disrupting its services and compromising customer data. The incident had far-reaching effects on Sony and showed the absolute necessity of robust digital security protocols.
Sony confirmed a second security breach on October 2023, one week after the extortion group Ransomed.vc claimed to have breached the company’s PSN servers and seized 3.14 GB of data. A similar situation compromised the identities of 6,791 people who worked for the company at one point or another.
Sony’s PlayStation Network’s technical team hasn’t had a relaxing day since the PSN has been experiencing mysterious interruptions for over six hours. Earlier today, the PlayStation Network Status website said the impacted platforms were the “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web.” This incident happened after Sony released a new PS5 System Software Update last week.
While ‘Other’ can include other items, we’re assuming it’s most likely the PSN App. Millions of people are probably feeling the effects of the outage right now, with signing in being problematic and almost every service disrupted.
Despite Sony’s silence, the PSN network status page continues to reflect problems across the board, and many players are finding that turning on their PlayStations simply leads to further irritation. While Sony’s silence on the matter is hardly shocking, it has sparked speculation that the PlayStation Network has been targeted by hackers yet again. Sony has yet to confirm this outage.
