Newly discovered Insomniac files seem to suggest a possible DLC is in the works and will feature an iconic comic character.
Just when you think things are over for Insomniac, another new set of files leaks online, this time focused on an upcoming DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. These files were sadly part of the cyber-attack that leaked many of the studio’s files, including numerous planned projects over the next few years. There seems to be no end to the leaks.
If you didn’t know by now, back in December 2023, Insomniac were the victims of a cyber-attack from a group of hackers called the Rhysida Group. Initially, the group of cyber attackers asked for a $2 million ransom from the developers to not leak the files online. Understandably, the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer refused these terms, and subsequently, the files were leaked online – well over 1.67 TB worth of data. Included in these files was an incredibly early yet playable build of the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game, as well as highly sensitive personal information about the studio’s staff and other personnel.
However, included in these leaked Insomniac files seemed to be information surrounding a possible DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. These were first spotted by Twitter user zvis_ceral, who noted that Beetle would be a part of the DLC. Beetle wouldn’t be the only comic character appearing in the DLC, as there are also files for Janice Lincoln, Tombstone’s daughter, who would also play the role of Lady Beetle. Both Beetle and his Female counterpart would have most likely been new antagonists to encounter, and we would have most likely had missions surrounding them.
As for what action is being taken against the hack, as of writing – Sony has stated that they will be looking into the cyber-attack, however, they did clarify that they found zero evidence in their other Sony Interactive Entertainment division were affected by the cyber-attack. This means that Insomniac was likely the sole target. Insomniac has released its statement, which states that all projects have been delayed while the studio readjusts.
