It is believed that a remaster of the 2017 title is in the works, alongside a multiplayer Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West Spin-off
PlayStation are seeming to be doubling down on these remasters as now following the release of The Last of Us Remake, it has been reported that another PlayStation first title may also be receiving a remaster. In a report from MP1ST it appears that Guerrilla Games’ very own Horizon Zero Dawn, a title released in 2017, may be receiving a full scale remaster.
Apparently, the updated version of Horizon Zero Dawn will feature improved visuals in order to more closely match it with that of the games sequel in Horizon Forbidden West. The new remaster will contain new character modes, improved lighting and more to bring the original up to par. Furthermore, this remaster will also follow the footsteps of The Last of Us Remake and provide players with more accessibility options as well as some basic quality of life improvements.
In addition to this news, apparently, there is also an Horizon style multiplayer title, also somewhat similar to Naughty Dog working on The Last of Us multiplayer. Sources at MP1ST have stated that this multiplayer customisation may be based on the tribes of Horizon with the gameplay acting as a sort of co-op. It is still currently unknown really if this multiplayer title will contain either PVP or Co-op.
Obviously, PlayStation re-releasing/remastering old titles is not a new phenomenon, however, people are confused about the choice of remaster. Horizon Zero Dawn is five years old, the game realistically still holds up. Older titles could more happily improve from a remaster, with many players still patiently praying for the arrival of a Bloodborne remaster or even just a Bloodborne PS5 update,
Of course, one of the primary reasons for the remaster that makes the most sense is the accessibility options that would give players with disabilities the opportunity to actually play the game. Giving more players a chance to experience this hobby that we all love is never a bad thing, and it is good that accessibility is becoming a more and more important aspect of game development.
What do you think of the rumour of a Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster? Do you think the remaster is worth it? Or is it going to be overpriced considering the games age? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
