This ban on Hogwarts Legacy is actually an expansion of an existing ban regarding promotional material for the upcoming title.
Hogwarts Legacy, the game coming from Avalanche Studios, is under crushing controversy and has been since its announcement. Now, one of the biggest online forums currently operating has banned any discussion regarding the game. This comes following a previous ban in which discussion of promotional material regarding the title was banned, but not the game itself. Now, even discussion regarding the game has been disallowed.
In a post on ResetEra it was stated that “the mod team has decided to expand our prior ban on promotion for the Hogwarts game to include the game itself”. They further stated that there will be “no discussion of this game” with the basis behind this decision being the issues regarding author J.K Rowling and her controversial and offensive opinions regarding trans people. The mod team stated that: “Rowling is actively pushing, in her position as a wealthy and famous individual, for legislation that will hurt trans people.”
This decision by Resetera is not the first form of protest against J.K Rowling’s hateful comments against the transgender community. In fact, many have boycotted Hogwarts Legacy entirely because of these comments. Even actors that were apart of the project have denounced it with Sebastian Croft stating this on twitter:
