Blizzard has given its defunct MOBA a surprise update.
It’s not every day we see the return of a defunct game but all hope doesn’t seem to be lost for Blizzard’s cross-franchise MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, which has recently gotten a massive surprise update. This update has caused quite a stir with many fans suspecting that Blizzard may be reviving the title, which went into maintenance mode last year.
When the game first launched in 2015, Heroes of the Storm soon became a powerhouse hit for Blizzard. The cross-franchise MOBA allowed players to face off against each other playing as their favorite heroes and villains from various Blizzard games such as Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Overwatch and even older titles such as The Lost Vikings. However, what goes up must come down and shortly after the game celebrated its seven-year anniversary, Blizzard announced that Heroes of the Storm would no longer be receiving regular content updates.
All hope hasn’t been lost for the game as recently, Adam Fletcher, who you may know as the global development director of Diablo, has shared a new massive Public Test Realm patch for Heroes of the Storm. The new test realm seems to be similar to the ones the game has received in the past and included an array of patches, bug fixes and balance updates. This is one of the largest patch updates that the game has ever received since Heroes of the Storm went into Maintenance mode back in 2022. Many think this may have to do with the Acquisition by Microsoft.
It should be noted that fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, we have yet to receive any official announcement beyond these patch notes for Heroes of the Storm, so it could just be regular maintenance. It is also unlikely that we won’t hear anything during this year’s BlizzCon, considering that there was no floor space for the name listed.
