Helldivers 2 Minigun Suggestion Possible addition
Shams Jorjani, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios and Helldivers 2, has indicated he will bring up the possibility of adding a minigun weapon to Helldivers 2 with his team. This news will likely excite fans who have been requesting the weapon since the game’s release.
While Helldivers 2 has had a few bumps along the way, it’s largely been an example of a successful live-service game. Arrowhead Game Studios keeps close contact with its community, with the CEO often responding to fan queries on Discord. This ongoing interaction makes it clear that the studio values player input, which is reflected in the continuous release of new content for Helldivers 2. This engagement has kept the game fresh and exciting, and it doesn’t seem like the momentum will slow down anytime soon.
In a recent exchange on the Helldivers 2 Discord server, a fan proposed the idea of adding a minigun, inspired by Killzone: Shadow Fall. Given the recent Killzone crossover, the suggestion feels fitting. The proposed weapon would overheat after prolonged use instead of reloading, creating a more balanced experience. Jorjani replied by saying, “I sit next to the weapons guy.” further stating, “I’ll ask ‘minigun when’ again.” Although this isn’t a firm promise, it’s a positive sign that the addition could be considered in the future.

Fans have long been asking for a minigun in Helldivers 2, and there are various ways it could be implemented, such as requiring two players to manage the weapon. While there are already Machine Gun and Gatling Sentry Stratagems in the game, they don’t offer the same experience as using a minigun directly. A player-controlled minigun would fill a gap in the current weapon offerings, making it an exciting possibility.
Regardless of whether the minigun ever arrives, Helldivers 2 has plenty of exciting plans for 2025. The Galactic War continues with ongoing Major Orders, and the franchise is branching out beyond video games with a new board game set for release in April. It looks like another strong year ahead for Arrowhead Game Studios and their action-packed third-person shooter.
