Monthly updates continue for Gran Turismo 7 as Kazunori Yamauchi teases the next one.
Live service games are tough to maintain, but people at Polyphony Digital, the creators of Gran Turismo 7, are keeping it tight with their monthly updates. Since its release back in 2022, Gran Turismo 7 has been receiving steady updates, mostly about new cars and quality of life updates. During the almost 2 years of lifespan, the title had seen major tournaments and a fully-fletched movie adaptation, so it is reasonable that sometimes droughts can happen.
Recently, the rival of Gran Turismo 7, Forza Motorsport announced that they too are preparing an update to balance the game. The update is supposed to include changes to AI, a better progression system, and an overall balance between cars. However, people deemed it to be very late for Turn 10 to update Forza Motorsport. While this is mostly not true for the fans of Gran Turismo 7, they found it to be rather lackluster after not having an update for two months straight.
The update was teased by Kazunori Yamauchi, the series creator, with an expected fashion. Expected cars for the January update were posted with silhouettes. While most people were expecting great cars, the silhouettes only show one road car and two Vision GT cars, which means bad news. While the road car can be used in races too, the one people are going to receive seems to be a Suzuki Jimny, which happens to be a small kei car. The Vision GT prototypes appear to be Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept and BVLGARI Aluminium VGT.
The reason why VGT cars are being frowned upon is the fact that players cannot use those cars freely due to their rarity and their not being in a proper class. Therefore they can be only used in arcade mode with only the same or other VGT models. This means the Suzuki Jimny is the only valuable car in the roster, and people are not fine about it. Sure, we do remember how Gran Turismo used to be about regular cars, but with a snail’s pace, it will take a lot of time for Polyphony Digital to bring a handful of regular cars to draw people’s attention again.
Gran Turismo 7’s January update is expected to be dropped this week. People are also expecting some changes to the gameplay within the update too, but as we all know, tracks and other creations take months for them to be added. It would be a tough chance to see Polyphony working overtime during the Holiday Season to bring back new content so we can expect to see small changes instead.
