The Golden Globes were held Sunday night, and while the hosting was better than last year’s, there were still plenty of snubs to discuss.
The Golden Globes last year didn’t have the best host with Jo Koy. This year, they got Nikki Glazer. She has been known for her celebrity roasts and stand-up specials. She did a better job of hosting this year and had some pretty good jokes. The difference was that these jokes poked fun at just about everyone and seemed to have just about everyone laughing on all sides of the political spectrum. Some award shows nowadays are scared to hire certain people to host. But Nikki Glaser did a good job of putting a good amount of comedy on the show, which is much needed for people to stay engaged.
Regarding the awards, Shōgun swept the TV show categories, and Emilia Pérez won four in the movie categories. Many people are upset that Wicked did not win Best Comedy or Musical, although it did win Best Box Office Achievement.
I feel like the film Anora was definitely snubbed, as it was, in my opinion, the best film of the year. But it’s hard to please certain people with a movie that doesn’t have a massive budget. The film also didn’t necessarily have a massive actor or actress in it to help push it to the masses. But I do believe that Anora will be remembered more than most of the films that were nominated at the Golden Globes this year.
I’m still upset at the fact that The Substance is nominated under the comedy or musical category. I think it’s about time the Golden Globes and Oscars add a new category for horror/thriller films. They could even add sci-fi to the list as well. I think it’s pretty silly that they think that they’re above nominating a horror film. But they still ended up giving Demi Moore the award for her performance in The Substance, which is a horror film, true and true. So I hope that in the coming years, we can see some kind of award made for horror and thriller films, but I highly doubt it’s ever going to happen, unfortunately.
They got a couple of awards, right? Especially the best score category. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won one for the Challengers score, which, in my opinion, is the best score of the year and the best score in a long time. But I’m not alone in this, as it seems to do very well on streaming and make a lot of waves on social media. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are also in the band Nine Inch Nails, so it’s pretty awesome to see one of my favorite band members go on to win Golden Globes.
So, while the Golden Globes show was better than it was last year, I hope that they can take some of the criticisms others have mentioned and continue to improve it.
