The Lo-fi picture book feel game Ghostpia is coming to PC and Switch.
London-based publisher PQube and Japan-based indie games publisher Chosuido announced on 20 March 2023 that their Lo-fi Visual novel, Ghostpia Season One will be released during Q2 2023 on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Of course, the visual novel was originally released on mobile and web browsers, which were only available in Japan, meaning this will be the first time the game is released in the west. Ghostpia has been redone with new music, higher-resolution illustrations, and far more complex animations.
Ghostpia introduces an adorable art style mixed in with some glitch and noise effects to give a visibly pleasing background for you to delve into with this immersive visual novel that follows Sayoko (the main protagonist). The game has a Lo-fi picture book feel, with options to turn on or off the glitch and noise effects.
Unlike most visual novels, Ghostpia has kinetic gameplay, so there are no quick-time events or branching routes that can be hard to choose between. Ghostopia also tends to be a dynamic experience with animations and music that elevates the traditional visual novel experience. It’s meant for you to be able to sit back and enjoy it as though it were a movie.
Sayoko, the only foreigner in town, shares a room with a mysterious girl by the name of Yoru. Isolated from the world by snow, a town lies barren near a terminal station. There lies a town where ghosts flood the streets at night. They say this is an ideal town. A true utopia for ghosts. But is it? Can you really call this place a utopia?
To run beyond the unfathomable snowy desert, to go beyond where nobody else has gone. Sayako wishes, more than anything in the world, to return to her hometown. To remember what she has forgotten is the one thing she holds most dear. That is her dream.
Ghostpia Season One will be available on Steam as well as on Nintendo Switch.
