Epic Games tweaks the rewards system used for its Fortnite creators, potentially reducing Their earnings.
With the new formula being implemented, Fortnite creators will earn money based on how much V-Bucks is spent by players who engage with their islands the week before and after. With Fortnite well-known for its battle Royale mode, the game does offer two other modes that were essentially meant to be the base reason for the game’s existence – Save The World and Fortnite Creative.
Save The World is primarily the game’s main feature but was overtaken when the Battle Royale mode sparked interest and rose in popularity, making the Battle Royale feature the more popular option players come to play. On the other hand, Fortnite Creative Mode started out as a sandbox experience and eventually also took a top spot with players as it became more complex as the game developed further, taking fans by surprise.
There are many players who actively and exclusively play Fortnite for its Creative Mode, enjoying the diverse creations of other users’ islands, while other players prefer to create and experience their own maps using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite tool, also known as, Creative 2.0. With Unreal Editor for Fortnite having taken map creation to a whole other level, players were blown away by the potential of this unique feature.
When Epic announced the Creator Economy 2.0 system for the game a while back, they made it possible for users of Unreal Editor for Fortnite to make some money off of their respective islands instead of only making a profit off the Support A Creator Program. Users of this feature would also make an extra bit of income based on the popularity of their respective maps.
However, this system is, once again, going to change. From November 1, creators will receive a sum of money based on the V-Bucks that players spend in the game every week before and after playing on other creator’s islands. This new system being implemented raises some questions in the Fortnite community; many players were intrigued by this aspect as it seems impossible to accurately monitor the popularity of a creative map based on the V-Bucks spent before and after engaging with an island.
There are many reasons that could influence a Fortnite player to spend money on V-Bucks. As pointed out by a fan on twitter, this could limit creators as they may start sharing their islands whenever new or well-received skins hit the item shop, making it more likely to spend money.
To top this off, it could become a possibility that users of creative mode could turn to marketing-based islands for more click farming based on what’s trending in the shop, leading creators to the point of being put under pressure to put out certain types of content they normally wouldn’t create which could lead to the content feeling unoriginal. In the long run, only time will tell which way the coin will fall.
