Epic Games gets overwhelmed with the positive response to Fortnite’s throwback event.
It has been quite a while since Fortnite turned into a battle royale game from a planned PvE game. Made as a spinoff, Fortnite Battle Royale was created in the midst of the battle-royale genre around 2017. The original game was quite barebones, with no items, no cross-promotions, stock weapons, and cartoonish style, people started to crave the simplicity of the old days.
Epic Games saw the opportunity and made a throwback event for both veteran and new players. On the 3rd of October, Fortnite OG was released, taking people back to the game’s roots with the first map and characters we remember from back in the day, albeit with different skins this time around. As everyone could guess, the event would eventually bring a lot of players back in just to remember the old days of the king of battle royale genre, and bring back it did. According to Fortnite’s X account, the 4th of October saw the highest player count of all time in Fortnite’s history.
In the X post, it is stated that Fortnite reached a staggering 44.7 million players during the event, clocking 102 million hours of gameplay. For the daily active player stats, the number changes between 4 to 6 million, depending on the timezone of course. Since there is a high interest in Fortnite, Epic Games is mirroring the health of their servers constantly. For a free-to-play game, this number is exponentially high and it showcases how Epic Games can create games that are important to many people worldwide.
The event is expected to last a month, it is not exactly stated but people are speculating it to be until the beginning of December. It is thought to be a short event as the battle pass consists of only 50 levels, and of course, there is an upcoming holiday season to be prepared for. Still, Epic Games was able to make an event that would eventually break their all-time player record nonetheless. Let’s wait and see what they are currently cooking up for Christmas.
