The long-rumored Fallout 3 Remaster will not be released anytime soon.
The original Fallout game, produced and published by Bethesda, was Fallout 3, released in 2008. Like its predecessor, Oblivion, Fallout 3 was a commercial smash, eventually selling over 12 million copies. During the FTC proceedings in 2023, when regulators determined whether Microsoft could acquire Activision Blizzard, documents were released that suggested Bethesda was planning remasters for both Oblivion and Fallout 3.
An insider source has confirmed that the long-rumored Fallout 3 Remaster will not be released anytime soon. There have been rampant speculations regarding a remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which has piqued fans’ interest in a potential remaster of Fallout 3. Regrettably, it appears that players will have to wait a while to experience this title.
Based on the facts revealed in the original leaked documents, we can speculate about the release date, but Nate the Hate’s imprecise statement makes it impossible to determine when the remaster will actually be released. As an example, Bethesda had hoped to release Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls 6 in the same year. The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a way out from its 2025 release date and is more likely to land in late 2026 or 2027, so it’s possible the game will arrive around the same time.

However, it appears that the release of the Oblivion remaster is almost upon us. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been the subject of speculation for some time, but new screenshots leaked online confirm that the game is real and is coming soon to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
It’s still possible that April is the release window for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, but day one on Xbox Game Pass is still the norm. Rumor has it that the game has gotten a visual makeover, along with a slew of quality-of-life upgrades and reworked gameplay features that alter aspects like combat.
