Recently, Sketchfab, a 3D asset platform, was purchased by the firm.
Unreal Engine has been getting closer to being a developer’s one-stop facility. Epic Games appears to be adamant about providing developers with everything they need to build games with Unreal Engine without having to search for components elsewhere. More than 4 million 3D objects are available on Sketchfab. On the site, members may modify, purchase, and sell content.
Epic has reduced Sketchfab’s store fees to 12% (the same as the Epic Games Store), allowing 3D asset creators to get a bigger share of gross sales. Epic also reduced the fees for that global market from 30% to 12%. Everyone may now utilize the Sketchfab Plus subscription, which allows them to submit more assets with higher file sizes. Subscription Management members will be upgraded to the Pro plan at no additional cost, and the monthly upload limit on the Expert tier will be increased from 30 to 50. Epic said that even Sketchfab’s connections with 3D creation and publishing services will be maintained. The assets will still work in other game engines, including Unity, which is a competitor to Unity.
Epic’s acquisition of ArtStation, a portal where CGI and game artists can store their portfolios and sell work, preceded the Sketchfab transaction.
