Embark Studios is clamping Down on controller Aim Assist in The Finals.
The Finals is a free-to-play first-person shooter, developed by Nexon, a subsidiary of Embark Studios. The Finals is a team-based battle-royale on maps with a destructible environment, where players are required to think out of the box while using the environments to their destructive advantage to gain the win.
In a recent patch for The Finals, the recent update seems to be hammering down on controller users and the use of aim assist, this comes as a kind of plot twist because it’s a rare move for any FPS game to make in the cross-play communities that use controllers.
However, Embark stated that the changes came to be in “an in-depth review of how aim assist works”, further stating that “something we’ve only been able to validate with a player base as large as ours.”
Furthermore, The NERF that’s come from Embark Studios has targeted “zoom snapping” and “camera magnetism” amongst other factors, arriving after a huge debate over the advantages controllers have along with the aim assistance over the mouse and keyboard players.
Aim assist happens to be a bit of a touchy subject in any first-person Battle Royale genre, and it brings both mouse and keyboard users along with controller users under one competitive banner. In most cases, PC players get politely ignored in this regard due to the advantages controllers have when aim assist is involved.
The most significant changes to The Finals would have to be zoom snapping as it’s the guiding hand of controllers. With regards to controllers, the camera magnetism will also be getting a 15% decrease, Embark Studios however, is not taking any chances as they hope this decrease will “lower controller accuracy”
While this seems like a downside to controller users, Embark is also looking into remapping programs like ‘reWASD’ to catch those using these kinds of programs as it is a big problem for the console players. These programs allow PC players to come across as console players ticking the games, giving them more of an edge with aim assist on top of having the pinpoint control of playing on mouse and keyboard making them essentially making them Immortal and unbeatable.
Embark Studios overall, with some ups and downs especially the hope of leveling the playing field, all players can hope for is that this patch improves what needs to be improved on and is fair in regards to both console and PC players.
