Respawn is working on the last chapter of the Star Wars Jedi story.
While this week’s EA business presentation may not have sounded all that thrilling, it did confirm that Respawn is working on the last chapter of the Star Wars Jedi story. Forty million players have played the first two games, and it doesn’t even account for those who have subscribed to services like EA Play.
In my opinion, not even Star Wars Jedi: Survivor comes close to matching the 20 million people who played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order three years ago. It’s still probably above 10 million, which is fantastic.
The release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One should boost that number even more. Hopefully, the third game will truly be exclusive to the current generation, so it can use the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2027.
It appears to be a safe bet to wait four years after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In contrast, I could see if EA was internally targeting a holiday 2026 release, which is reasonable considering that it is a Star Wars holiday.
The director of the previous two games, Stig Asmussen, has founded a new firm to develop an action-adventure IP, so we don’t know what to expect from this third installment.
