Dragon’s Dogma 2 console performance is finally addressed by developers.
Since its launch in March this year, Dragon’s Dogma 2 received a warm reception. However, there has been a constant stream of complaints from console users because the experience was not consistent across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and there were consistent framerate issues.
You will be happy to know that these issues are addressed with Patch 7 of Dragon’s Dogma 2. The menu now offers High and Low graphical options in the menu. Digital Foundry’s in-depth analysis of these changes found that a majority of the issues regarding performance brought up during their analysis of Patch 2 were addressed in this latest patch.
Certain optimization tactics were utilized to alleviate Dragon’s Dogma 2’s CPU-intensive situations, changes in graphical presentation were made so the visuals are consistent across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and the 120Hz output mode was finally added to the PS5 which was previously only available to Microsoft’s consoles.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 still has frame-time issues, but that can be alleviated by turning on the 120Hz output mode on your display that supports Variable Refresh Rates. This will make the jittery feel of the motion seem less apparent.
Unfortunately, the performance largely stays around 30-35 FPS in Ray Tracing on and hovers around 40 FPS with it off. I was disappointed by the performance I got on the PS5 playing this game, but at the very least I am glad our feedback is being addressed by the developers and some of the issues were resolved.
I had a blast playing Dragon’s Dogma 2, especially since the sequel seemingly came out of left field 12 years after the release of its predecessor. I highly recommend checking this game out if you are a fan of fantasy-action RPG games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Skyrim. You can try this game out for free right now in Dragon Dogma 2’s trial version where you can play the first 2 hours, and then retain your progress if you decide to purchase the game.
