Dragon’s Dogma 2’s director Hideaki Itsuno wants to keep players acquainted with the game’s world and characters.
It has been 12 years since Dragon’s Dogma players received a new title, and they are happy that the series is making a return. But so far, what is the sequel aiming to give when it arrives? One thing is for sure, the director of the series, Hideaki Itsuno, wants people to get used to the game’s environment. According to a recent interview, he wants people to take a walk between the quests in Dragon’s Dogma and just forget about the fast travel option, which seems to be the staple game mechanic nowadays.
Not that fast travel is absent in the game, but it is very hard to come by during the first few hours of Dragon’s Dogma 2, he states. Fast travel is going to use Ferrystones, an item you’d come along with during your gameplay or purchase from merchants. But as you progress further through the story and become financially stable, Ferrystones are going to be easy to get and will allow players to go fast travel to their desired destinations. Itsuno says they have implemented this mechanic due to how lively the environment is going to be in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
There will be little details and important bits that Itsuno wants to show to players, and since horseback riding and any means of vehicle are absent, players will have to wander around and find new stories, and even secrets. In terms of game balance and involvement of players, keeping them away from fast travel in the beginning seems to be the best plan according to Itsuno.
One another move Capcom made to promote Dragon’s Dogma 2 was to release a tool for free to play before the game’s release. Do you know how some people really tend to spend hours upon hours creating their characters before starting the game? The most recent game to feature that sort of hypnotic and detailed character customization was Baldur’s Gate 3, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 is aiming for the same principle too.
What’s best about the character customization for Dragon’s Dogma 2 is being able to try it out for yourself fully without paying anything. Both Itsuno and Capcom realized that people really love to spend a huge amount of time fine-tuning their characters, and made the tool available for everyone before the game’s release. Of course, most people use it for memes, creating characters from other games, actors, characters, and even celebrities too. At least it showcases that character customization in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is going to be adequate for lots of people’s imagination.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is going to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on the 22nd of March. It is currently available to pre-purchase and most people still cannot wait to boot up the game and dive into the world of Gransys once again.
