The 4th entry in the Dragon Age series has now entered the Alpha stage.
Bioware seem to be quite busy as of late. Star Wars: The Old Republic still remains an active game after all these years alongside the two new projects currently being developed. Of course these projects are the next iteration of a single player Mass Effect title and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf the 4th entry in a very popular franchise.
In a recent blog post, Bioware have revealed that they have reached a very important stage of development in regards to the game. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has now entered the Alpha Stage. Now for those who are unaware, the alpha stage is incredibly important as it is the first time that the project truly culminates as one piece, normally it means that the game in alpha is technically playable from beginning to end, a statement which General Manager Gary McKay echoes saying ” it’s not until the Alpha milestone that a game all comes together”
McKay further stated that “Now, for the first time, we can experience the entire game, from the opening scenes of the first mission to the very end”. This is exciting news for players who have been eager for information on the next iteration of Dragon Age.
Of course this by no means the game is finished, far from it in fact, as McKay stated how the developers can focus their efforts on other areas such as: “bringing the visual fidelity to its final form and iterating on gameplay features” and “valuate the game’s pacing, how relationships evolve over time, and the player’s progression, as well as narrative cohesion.”
In essence, this stage means that developers can ‘get a feel’ for the project as a whole and iterate on features bringing them to their apex. Again, there is no statement on a release date yet, as it will probably still be a distance away. As McKay further stated “there’s more work to be done”.
McKay made an interesting final statement, he mentioned of course the other projects currently going on at Bioware. Star Wars: The Old Republic was mentioned with McKay stating that players should “keep an eye on SWTOR.com and their social media accounts for any and all details on the coming game update”. But what really stood out on the final statement was this: “We have a team hard at work envisioning what the future holds for a new single-player Mass Effect game. And we look forward to celebrating our community on N7 Day next month”.
This could easily mean nothing, however, considering the transparency that Bioware has shown for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf it is entirely possible that on N7 Day we may get another look at the future of Mass Effect. The future is bright at Bioware.
