A Phrase in Destiny 2 has the power to crash other players’ games.
Players of Destiny 2 have undergone a strange and aggressive exploit that has resulted in many players’ games crashing. Players discovered that if they typed a specific word into the game’s text chat, it could, in fact, impact other players’ games. Players have typed specific words into text chat amidst PVP games, which has resulted in the game crashing and these players winning these matches by default.
This exploitation obviously caught the attention of many Destiny 2 players and quickly grabbed the attention of developer Bungie. The developer promptly posted on their official Twitter that they were “investigating an issue with Destiny 2’s text chat.” Not long after this statement, Bungie said this on their official Twitter:
Bungie stated that they were examining the ‘Weasel’ errors. The word ‘Weasel’ is an internal code utilized by Bungie to represent any errors that may occur within Destiny 2. As of now, the game still does not have text chat, and it is uncertain when the game’s text chat may, in fact, return.
Following this situation, Bungie has also posted this on Twitter:
This maintenance will occur at 10:00 am PDT with no downtime to be anticipated. Don’t expect this bizarre text chat glitch to be fixed during this maintenance. Following this maintenance, will be a hotfix which will be released on August 2nd, we do not know what the details of this hotfix will be at this time.
