Sadly, unlike Dark Souls 2, the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition’s servers will be permanently offline.
Dark Souls and Fromsoftware have had a bit of as tumultuous time as of late. Servers for many of the series’ titles have been suffering with security issues which had resulted in the shutting down of servers on: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls 2: Scholars of the First Sin and Dark Souls 3.
The quickest to get back online were the Dark Souls 3 servers, which had returned in August, though the servers did go offline once again before returning in September. Now, joining it’s successor, Dark Souls 2: Scholars of the First Sin‘s online servers have returned.

Sadly, Fromsoftware have announced that they will not be able to support online services on PC for the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition meaning that the game’s online servers are permanently disabled. However, in a good sign, the servers for Dark Souls Remastered are being worked on, with the official twitter stating this:
