The Stephen King novel, Cujo, is going to have a brand new adaptation coming to Netflix.
Cujo is finally getting a new film adaptation. The book was adapted for the screen in 1983 by director Louis Teague. So it’s been a long time since we have had a new look at the book. The film isn’t necessarily regarded as a great adaptation, so to speak, so the new one could prove itself more valuable.
This is regarded as one of the worst film adaptations among Stephen King fans. The concept of a killer dog is pretty hard to translate to film, but people still like the book itself. The 1983 film isn’t held in very high regard, even though it is a film that everyone knows about, given its subject matter.
Netflix has made other Stephen King adaptations, such as 1922 and Gerald’s Game. Both were semi-popular but had mixed reviews. Gerald’s game has aged well, and more people seem to enjoy it as time goes on. Netflix movies are hit or miss, but I did enjoy Spaceman last year.
As far as who will be involved in this Cujo remake right now, it seems that Roy Lee will be producing it. Roy Lee produced Barbarian and It (Pennywise), another Stephen King film adaptation. As of now, no director or writer is currently attached, but I’m sure that we will soon hear who one of those will be for Cujo.

Something interesting about this film is how they handle the dog itself. Will they hire a stunt dog, or will they just use CGI? I believe that if they use CGI for the dog, people will not like this film, and it will age poorly due to the advancement of CGI year by year.
The original Cujo used an actual dog and plenty of makeup to make it look intimidating. While the film has not aged well, the look at the dog in that movie is still pretty good. At least it looks like the producer they have has been involved in a good King adaptation, so hopefully, this one will be the same.
