Amazon decided that its recently launched free-to-play team-based shooter game “Crucible” will be retiring two of its three modes for the future to redefine the design of core systems without sacrifice.
Crucible was announced back in 2016. But things are not the same now. The Developer Relentless mentioned that dramatically things have been shifted during its development. Now Cruicible is featuring three distinct modes. It had morphed into a team-based shooter closer to MOBA. Relentless also mentioned that the game will be “retiring” all but Hearts of the Hive mode. Because in this mode an overwhelming number of all matches are played. If Relentless focuses on one mode, this will allow them to refine the design of core systems with the compromises the other three modes will need.
Heart of the Hives puts players against giant creatures that drop hearts upon defeat. Whoever secures three hearts becomes the winning team. Harvester Command mode ensures two teams of eight players try to capture and hold control points surrounding the map.
The other Alpha Hunters Mode offers a battle for survival against other teams. But Alpha Hunters will be removed soon while Harvester Command will be dropped once the new player experience has been improved.
While removing two-thirds of the game two weeks after it’s launching might raise questions Colin Johanson ensures they won’t begin Season 1 until they feel their community is ready to begin its first major live season.
They will introduce features including a mini-map, an improved ping system, voice chat, a surrender option, hit feedback, matchmaking, and Improved frame rate. They are also looking to tailor the map to better fit Heart of Hives’ needs, to add custom game support, and to improve creatures. Relentless also said that it will continue to release bug fixes and improvements while it works toward its goals.
