Insider Information Reveals that due to the reception of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, changes are being made to the franchise.
Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise in the world. The franchise is most-well known for popularizing the monster-catching genre. However, despite how popular the franchise has been, things haven’t been looking too good for it, especially after the poor reception of its most recent titles, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, things are likely to change as according to an industry insider, changes are going to be made to the franchise based on the criticisms from the most recent games.
However, the criticisms of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet aren’t a singular case, as for several generations now, the gap between the games’ sales and fans’ perceptions has significantly widened with each game. A good example of this is while Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have sold around 23 million copies worldwide, many longtime players have said that they are no longer infatuated with Game Freak’s monster-catching RPG.
While this group of unsatisfied players is rather substantial, many have pointed out that trying to criticize the games is an effort in futility as the number of players singing praises for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet significantly outnumbers the number of players criticizing the games. However, this may not be the case as industry insider, VGC’s Andy Robinson, said that The Pokémon Company is taking Scarlet and Violet’s criticism quite seriously. Andy shared this via a Tweet that was a response to a tweet asking about the direction for future games in the franchise.
This is definitely exciting news, but we will have to wait to see if anything will actually come from this; there is no denying that several major changes need to be made for the next entry in the series. Many fans have suggested that Game Freak should look to expand upon the game’s environments which many players criticized for feeling barren and empty, stating that with a big wide world of nothing shifting to an open world was rendered entirely pointless.
Another highly requested change is for the games to bring back features seen in past games such as the National PokéDex, The Battle Tower and Changing Seasons as seen in Pokémon Black and White. As mentioned before, we will have to wait and see what Game Freak and Pokémon as a whole will bring in the next entry in the iconic franchise.
