A sharp-eyed fan spots a curious piece of Bethesda merch that refers to a long-canceled Sci-Fi game that predates Starfield by decades.
Bethesda is currently selling some Starfield merchandise that references a long-lost sci-fi game titled The 10th Planet. The peculiar piece of merch spotted by a sharp-eyed fan, surfaced online almost 30 years after Bethesda canceled The 10th Planet. While Starfield represents the studio’s first foray into sci-fi, its interest in the genre dates back to the ‘90s.
While Bethesda was developing The 10th Planet in collaboration with Centropolis Entertainment, a German-American production company behind some of the biggest sci-fi Hollywood Blockbusters ever made including the iconic Stargate and Independence Day and other known features in the entertainment industry.
About three decades after the game’s cancellation, Bethesda has now paid tribute to the long-lost game, The 10th Planet in the form of a sew patch. The unique merch, was first spotted by Reddit user “Dejected_Cyberpsycho”, and can be currently found on the Bethesda Gear Store as part of the Starfield Explorer patch set.
The accessory features a simple design of ten plants encircled by the name of the canceled game. The moniker itself is a reference to the famed and hypothetical tenth planet or rather, planet X of the solar system that scientists have been seeking for centuries due to some peculiar orbital characteristics of Neptune and Uranus that couldn’t be otherwise explained.
Apart from this circular nylon reference to the Company’s canceled sci-fi game, the $18 set also includes The Livingstone Project, New Discoveries Expedition, and Astronaut Thumbs Up Patches, as for these patches according to the internet archive’s data-base, this bundle isn’t a new addition to Bethesda’s Gear Store. Instead, the patches set has been available for purchase since Starfield itself went up for pre-order back in June 2023, But the reference to The 10th Planet seemingly went undiscovered by the fandom until now.
In the end, the long-lost games reference has always been around and now only recently been spotted so for fans of the long-lost canceled game, there is memorabilia to be collected and enjoyed in the Bethesda Gear store.
