The long running service will be shutting down as Bethesda urges players to migrate their games and wallet to Steam starting in April.
Bethesda have been a company with a wide variety of games and projects, so much so that the Bethesda.net launcher was created to have all of those games in one place. Well, now that time is over, In a recent blog post Bethesda revealed that players will be unable to play any games via the Bethesda launcher from May onwards.
They also added that players should consider migrating their save games, wallet and other data over to Steam starting from April. Players again, have until May before this becomes impossible. The blog post went onto mention various more particular aspects of the migration including information on save games which the company stated “we expect almost all save progress to be transferable automatically or manually” which is great news for many players.
However, players who utilise services other than Steam are not in luck. The migration service only works from the launcher and Steam, so you cannot migrate any of your save games and such over to another service such as the Epic Games Store. In addition to this, players will still require a Bethesda.net login to access many of the games, particularly multiplayer games such as Fallout 76 etc.
It is uncertain what the companies reasons behind this change is, but perhaps we will receive more details in the coming months. It is a big year for Bethesda with the company releasing a torrent of games this year including: Arkane Studios’ Redfall, Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire Tokyo and finally the highly anticipated RPG Starfield, which is slated for release on November 11th.
