Battlefield 2042’s recent free weekend and huge discount still lure people into having good old fun, massive battles.
Battlefield, compared to its competitor, Call of Duty, has not been around much lately due to a lack of support from its developer. Although the new games and updates are pushed for the beloved franchise, it seems like the veterans and newcomers cannot find a middle ground to settle for the overall standing for the title. Battlefield V was mostly short-lived and had a tiny number of players, and the series’ newest title, Battlefield 2042 struggled even more.
It is very odd to believe that Battlefield 2042 had five seasons already being in, and it would still not pick any interest from the players. This was unfortunately tied to EA and DICE’s very low-quality control and very small amount of developers working on the title. When Battlefield 2042 was first released, it was filled with bugs and frustrated everyone enough to not suggest it be played. It has been quite a long time since Battlefield 2042 met with players, and after the fifth season, it started picking up steam again.
Thanks to EA and DICE’s decision to make the game free for a weekend, and a huge discount, they made the player count skyrocket out of the blue. This was also partially due to fixes coming with the newly released sixth season, it brought balanced vehicles, and weapons, and also added new content, making the game feel a lot more richer and stable.
We could see the change through one of the most trustworthy ways of checking whether a game is doing well or not, and that is the SteamDB. This third-party database allows you to check how many players are currently in-game, and according to past week’s graphs, the game sees around 100k players at peak and around 25k during downtimes. Certainly, it is impressive since Battlefield 2042 could reach this number almost two years ago when the game was released.
Battlefield’s free weekend might be over, but it is currently at a huge 84 percent discount, making it easily available to everyone. It is also available on EA Play too, which is very convenient for subscribers. Let’s see if Battlefield can keep its relevance even after the discount ends.
