Some people even forgot about Battlefield 2042’s existence, EA DICE, on the other hand, has other plans.
Battlefield 2042, despite its quiet and slow launch, is slowly getting better. As the game approaches its sixth and probably final season, EA and DICE decided to boost the interest in the game and made a few things more reachable for many. One of these includes making Battlefield 2042 free for a weekend and the other one is the huge discount on the sales. EA and DICE are really pushing forward as their competitor, Activision with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, is trying to gather some attention too.
Despite being deemed as not efficient enough to catch attention, Battlefield 2042 has around 10,000 daily players on average. However, with the free weekend and discount, we saw 104,00 peak players during the last weekend, thanks to SteamDB’s player count tool.
We could see the numbers actually rising with the included %84 discount as well. Although the decision to make the game more accessible to the masses, Call of Duty’s performance seems to be better, we have to keep in mind that Call of Duty is more popular, but still, Battlefield 2042 sudden interest spike is quite impressive.
This tie-in with Battlefield 2042’s free weekend and Season 6 was a great idea to showcase that the game is still alive and kicking, but most people still remember the horrendous launch of the game. Bugs and changes to core mechanics pushed what’s left of the community to look for other FPS games to play, or simply change to Call of Duty. EA and DICE are still fixing a lot of bugs and balancing the game out to reel people back in but their previous attempts were fruitless in that regard.
As the release date of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III approaches, we can expect to see the numbers go down on Battlefield 2042. Regular players are happy with the interest though, as they forward their thanks to EA and DICE for taking care of the game, implementing changes, and adding feedback that has been requested for a long time.
Battlefield 2042 is still somewhat in a problematic state where EA DICE needs to take care of despite its interest from players. The game lasted for six seasons and it is unknown what is the next move of the developers is going to be. We shall wait and see.
