The highly anticipated American Psycho remake has its star: Austin Butler. I believe this casting will be met with some hesitation.
American Psycho has become a cult film over time. The film came out in 2000 and was based on a book written in 1991. I have read the book and watched the film, as it is one of my favorites.
American Psycho is also one of the most memed movies online. Much of that is due to Christian Bale’s performance, as he is as very animated as Patrick Bateman. In the film, he shows many sides of his acting, basically every emotion you can think of.
I think this remake of American Psycho will either be polarizing or average to subpar. I hate to predict it like this, as I do like the director of the remake, Luca Guadagnino. He was responsible for a lot of great films in the last decade, such as Challengers and Call Me by Your Name.
He also has a frequent collaborator with one of my favorite musicians, Trent Reznor. So, hopefully, Trent Reznor gets to do the music for the American Psycho remake, and that’ll help it a lot. Just about every movie Reznor has done the music for under Luca Guadagnino has received nominations in the Golden Globes for best score and gotten a lot of attention.
Austin Butler is an interesting cast as he seems to be one of the more popular actors working right now. He has range, as he proved in the Elvis film that he was in and as well as in Dune: Part Two. I think he has to do a great performance for people to even compare this film to the original. Many will complain as they see him as just Elvis in every role that he partakes in as of late. So, his work is cut out for him. I hope for the best, though.
