Secure your Astro Bot controller, because when PlayStation says limited, they mean it!
While it might sound ridiculous to say, I would not be perplexed if the latest Astro Bot was a competitor for Game of the Year, considering the case of how Psychonauts 2 was the year it came out. After all, the Astro Bot series features amazing platformers.
The reason for such a bold statement is due to an exclusive PlayStation 5 Astro Bot controller being available for purchase very soon, and I must say that it looks amazing. At 10 a.m. Eastern Time on August 9th, pre-orders will begin.
It seems like PlayStation Direct’s website is your best bet for acquiring this. The launch will take place there right away, however they did mention that it would also be sold at other retail locations. They are yet to confirm which outlets will be included, but if you frequent Amazon or Best Buy, then it is likely that they will be held there.
However, based on my speculation, I believe that this will be a very popular item, maybe even more so than the previously revealed Concord controller, due to the immense fandom around the Astro Bot brand. While I really like the design of the Concord controller, I do not believe the title is popular enough to warrant its purchase.
Additionally, we know that any time PlayStation releases a limited-edition controller, it is actually limited, to the strictest meaning of the word. The Spider-Man 2 controllers were a one-and-done deal. So, if you are on the fence about getting this Astro Bot controller, my advice is to place an order and think about it after.
Until they send your order, none of the three sites I listed—Amazon, Best Buy, and PlayStation Direct—charge you a dime. It follows that you have the option to “lock in” your purchase and then reconsider at a later time. Launching formally on September 6 with the $80 price tag, it is a no-brainer if you like the aesthetic. To reiterate, on August 9th, at 10 a.m. Eastern time, pre-orders will be available.
