Activision’s top executive told investors that the game’s scenario is one that “fans are familiar with and appreciate.”
According to Activision, Call of Duty 2021 is set in 2021. This year’s Call of Duty from Sledgehammer Games is called Call of Duty: Vanguard, and it will take players back to World War II when it arrives this Christmas season on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. However, the latter was on the verge of being confirmed on Activision’s earnings call this week.
On its own, a Cold War and World War 2 context is established. Given these allegations and the fact that Black Ops Cold War was released last year, World War 2 is the only viable alternative. The confirmation isn’t absolute, but it’s near.
Inevitably, if Call of Duty 2021 takes place during World War II, Call of Duty: Warzone will follow suit. According to numerous sources, the idea is to do this again with COD 2021 – but with a World War II makeover, of course. It took months for Warzone to get a Cold War update for Black Ops Cold War last year.
