An Update On American McGee’s Alice: Asylum Patreon Project.
An update to the third entry in the cult-classic American McGee’s Alice project has been revealed. Sadly, EA won’t take on the sequel to the Alice game series. American McGee the mind behind American McGee’s Alice and Alice: the madness returns, has been trying to get the third continuation to the game series American McGee’s Alice, which is a darker retelling of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
The proposed third entry, Alice: Asylum is the next chapter in Alice Liddell’s story and has been in discussion and pre-production for roughly six years. Alice: Asylum has been a passion project of American McGee, and an update about the project was posted declaring the End of Alice.
“They have ultimately decided to pass on the project based on an internal analysis of the IP market conditions, and details of the production proposal. On the question of licensing, they replied that “Alice” is an important part of EA’s overall game catalog, and selling or licensing it isn’t something they’re prepared to do right now,” American McGee says in a post titled “end of the Adventure” on the Asylum Patreon project.
The Alice: Asylum project has been a passion project for McGee, who has made a comprehensive and detailed document for the pitch containing, art and concept ideas to persuade EA to have the world of Alice: Asylum licensed or to fund the game. After going through the process of making a world document covering data over the past year, McGee finally started pitching and gathering public views with a video.
Oddly though, despite EA saying that Alice is an “important part of EA’s overall games catalog”, however, the last Alice game came out in 2011. This would have given EA more than enough time to develop and plan, multiple entries into the Alice game series. As for American McGee himself, he released a statement declaring his standpoint on the game and its development as well as his future in game production.
“For my part, I have also reached an endpoint with “Alice” and with game production in general. I have no other ideas or energy left to apply toward getting a new Alice game made. Nor do I have any interests in pursuing new game ideas within the context of the current environment for the game development” stated American McGee.
This brings an end to the long-discussed and equally long-awaited third-entry game Alice: Asylum, much to the sadness and disappointment of long-time fans of the psychological horror platformer. It seems that this will likely be the end of Alice Lidell’s journey.
