The long wait is over Akuma fans as Capcom has finally given us the first look at the new DLC character.
Street Fighter is known for its incredibly diverse fighter roster, with each new game adding new and exciting characters but sometimes, you can’t beat the classics. Capcom has finally given us our first look at the upcoming Street Fighter 6 DLC character, Akuma’s new look, as well as when we can expect to get him in the game. Street Fighter 6 has been a truly massive hit with both fans and critics, becoming one of the most successful entries to date since it first released in June 2023. Capcom has continually updated the game with new patches, updates and of course, DLC characters, which will include a character that many veteran players will be glad to see.
For the game’s first season pass, Street Fighter 6 added four new characters to the game such as Rashid, who was added in July and A.K.I who was added in September of 2023. Two more characters are expected to be added to the game, with evidence suggesting that Ed will most likely be the third additional character and Akuma being the fourth. Both Ed and Akuma are expected to be released sometime in Winter 2024 and Spring 2024. Capcom decided to celebrate the new year by giving us our first look at Akuma’s new look he will be sporting when he eventually arrives in the game.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Akuma in Street Fighter 6, as we did get a brief look at him in a previous trailer, which showed concept art. However, in a post shared on the official Street Fighter Twitter account, we got to see what Akuma would look like in the street Fighter engine. The character looks fierce and dangerous, with a striking red background and symbols from his iconic finishing move, the Raging Demon. In Street Fighter 6, Akuma has a far more beast-like appearance, with stark white hair and being adorned in animal pelts. This is definitely a new look for the character who was famed for his red mane of hair.
The return of Akuma, one the series’ most iconic antagonists, was met with quite the positive uproar from fans, with many of them complimenting the new design which better utilizes his lion motifs. Sadly, as exciting as this reveal is, fans will still need to wait a while as Akuma’s release is still quite a few months away.
