Once you’ve progressed through Being A Student Until Professor Fig Returns, you will continue your investigation on what exactly Is Ancient Magic and will have to track down the missing pages from the book you found in the Restricted Section of the Library. Depending on your chosen House, you will be given a different scenario. If you chose Gryffindor, you will journey with a character known as Nearly Headless Nick.
If you chose Hufflepuff, Eldritch Diggory’s portrait will tell you to visit a retired Auror. Ravenclaw students will have to recover a lost wand for Olivander, and finally, Slytherin students help retrieve a ring for a House Elf.
Jackdaw’s Rest
You will first meet the ghost of Richard Jackdaw, you will agree to meet again at the Forbidden Forest. Once there, you will need to travel to where he met his end in hopes of finding the lost page that he was using as a map. Jackdaw will then explain that the password will need to be spoken in order to reveal a hidden path near the birdbath. He will lead you through the Forbidden Forest and explains to you how you will find said birdbath.
This, however, will be where Richard stops assisting you, as when you reach Floo Flame, he decides that he no longer wants to visit where he died. You are encouraged to go on without him. It’s recommended you take the path to the right to the Floo Flame as the path to the left is full of spiders. Turn left at the tree covered with many warning signs and you will find the waterfall he mentioned.
From the waterfall continue until you reach the lake and continue further and you’ll soon reach the birdbath. Speak the words needed but be prepared as there is a goblin ambush waiting for you when you enter the cave. The only real challenge for this fight is the Sentinel, which will start the fight with a red shield; this can be easily broken with Incendio.
When you finally enter the cave you will find three runes near a door. These runes are part of a puzzle you will find throughout the rest of the cave. Shoot each rune with Basic Casting to open the door, a bridge will start forming. Be quick as each rune is on a timer. Once across, use Incendio to burn away the spiderwebs.
Throughout the cave, you will find Thornback Spiders, these spiders will use a mix of melee pounces and web shots to attack you. Web shots can easily be avoided by using Protego and the spiders can easily be dealt with using Incendio, which will also deal damage to other nearby enemies.
You will eventually reach a branching path and head through the low opening with the horde of tiny spiders, which you can just ignore. Clear out the spiders in this room and you will find a chest with loot. Head back the way you came and drop down to the lower path.
Turn right and you will find a floating platform that you can use Accio to pull towards you. Before you do that, you can go up the ramp on your right side, you will then have to defeat some more spiders but you will be rewarded with another loot chest. Head back and pull the platform towards you, hop on, and then use Accio on the handle opposite to pull the platform over to it and reach a large chest in the alcove beyond.
Head back to the path and head in the opposite direction to reach even more spiders and another puzzle door. The third rune for the puzzle is located on the far left, hidden by the walls of the cave when you enter. Other than that, it’s the same as the last one.
Continue forward, head through a low opening, and find a ledge with a floating platform. Same as before using Accio to bring the platform towards you, but this time you can use it to explore the area. There are several points that you can use, start by heading to the opening on your right by using Accio.
Burn the web on your right to get a chest and then continue forward into a ball that is full of spider egg sacs. These can be destroyed by using Incendio, but be careful if you suffer from arachnophobia as they’ll explode into many little spiders that can be killed with one hit.
A cluster of spiders will be waiting to ambush you, however, if you defeat them you will be rewarded with a large chest. Once you’ve gotten your glorious loot head back the way you came and the other path is blocked.
Once you’re back on the floating platform, head towards the path that requires you to climb up a small cliff, there will be loot once you make it to the top. Once again head back the way you came but this time go down the path you saw spiders scuttle by earlier.
Head further in and defeat the spiders to get more loot. Once you make it to the larger chamber head to your left to find another chest. Go down the path on your right to find another floating platform with some handles nearby.
Get onto the floating platform and use the handles to move it down the hall until you reach a ledge that has another chest. Pull the platform to the opposite ledge to find another chest.
Continue down towards your objective, you will have to defeat some spiders and then face off against the Thornback Matriarch. Despite their intimidating size, they can be defeated quite easily by either using Ancient Magic or by setting them on fire using Incendio. Be mindful of the Scurriors, these will burrow underground and try to attack you from underground. You can use Levioso to stop them from burrowing, this will leave them vulnerable to attacks.
Once the spiders have been defeated, head towards the slope leading up to the gate, and head down the path next to it to find a chest and some more runes. Head back to the top of the path by the slope and you can see a rune. There’s another rune near the gate. Use Basic Cast on the runes to make a bridge and head forward.
The chamber across the bridge has chests hidden on both the left and right sides of the entrance. Straight ahead, you will find Jackdaw’s body, his head severed by three swords stuck into the ground. Search his body to find the missing pages and prepare for a fight.
Pensieve Sentries and Sentinels will come to life, they can be stunned and disarmed by Expelliarmus. They won’t be unarmed for very long and after a while, they will summon new weapons.
Once you’ve survived the first waves of enemies and giant Pensieve Protector will come to life. The Protector has unblockable attacks but they can be interrupted by using Expelliarmus. Once the first one is defeated, two more will appear. When they are defeated, you will have the ability to interact with an Ancient Magic point. This will activate a gate to a strange chamber. After you enter, the entire chamber will become flooded. However, you are safely protected in a bubble. Proceed forward and you will find a portrait of Professor Rackham.
It gets revealed, that so far everything has been designed to lead someone with the ability to see and use Ancient Magic, much like yourself, to the map chamber. When you try to press him for more information, Rackham refuses to elaborate further until a book gets placed on the back chamber pedestal.
Rackham will then tell you if you want more information, you will need to return with the book for more information. Taking the upper door out of the chamber will unlock a Floo Flame for the Map Chamber and reveal that the Chamber is beneath Hogwarts Castle.
