Hogwarts Legacy walkthrough and guide for those struggling to get started with the game.
The opening of Hogwarts Legacy will introduce you to character customization as well as introduce Professor Fig and his companion from the Ministry of Magic, George Oslic. Professor Fig then explains that the protagonist is a 5th-year student and instructs them on the basics of magic as he ensures that you will arrive safely at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
During your trip in a flying carriage, George reveals an unusual object. He then explains that the object was given to him by Miriam, Professor Fig’s wife, who has gone missing. George Oslic believes that her disappearance is somehow connected to the Goblin Rebellion and that the leader of the said rebellion, Ranrok, is responsible. Your character notices a strange glow coming from the object and reveals a hidden key upon touching it.
Your carriage ride is soon interrupted by a collared dragon that tears the carriage in half, killing George. While plummeting to the ground, Professor Fig grabs the protagonist’s hand, holding the key, and casts Accio, teleporting you safely to a mysterious cave.
Once in the cave, Professor Fig gives you a Wiggenweld Potion, and he then teaches you how to use potions for healing. After you are done healing your wounds, Fig leads you out of the cave and strange ruins get revealed along the coast of the Scottish Highlands. Fig then tells you that you should explore, completely ignoring that you both nearly died only a few moments ago.
After following Fig and the on-screen prompts, you learn basic movement controls. During this time, Fig tells you more about his wife and Miriam’s research into Ancient magic. After this dialogue, you will soon reach an ice-like crystal wall blocking your path.
The Professor then suggests you use this as an opportunity to show off your Wandwork. This unlocks Basic Casting, which gives you access to standard attacks that they will use to break the wall after a few hits.
Follow the Professor until he turns right after climbing up a wall; if you continue left, there will be a chest with some money. Once you head back to the Professor, he will cast the Reparo spell to repair the ruins. After this, you are free to explore for a little bit.
In ruins, you will be able to interact with certain items, such as the Mural and the Statue. Interacting with these items will cause some banter between Fig and the protagonist. Near the Statue, you can find a narrow path on the right. This path will lead them to more enchanted stones. Interacting with these stones will reveal that only you can see the reflection of another area. Upon touching the stone, both Fig and the protagonist are transported to an unfamiliar location.
Gringotts Vault
After arriving in this new area, you will have to wake up the Goblin on the desk and show them the strange key. You will then learn that they and Professor Fig somehow entered Gringotts Vault through a Private Entrance. They have entered Vault 12, one of the oldest vaults. Once you’ve traveled deeper into the vault’s depths and have a near altercation with a guard, the Goblin lets both of you enter the vault; he then locks you in. The instructions given to the Goblin were to lock whoever held the key into the vault.
The Statue Puzzle
You will then be taught the Revelio spell via a short minigame and you will then have to use the spell to show the way forward. Follow Professor Fig until you discover a shining spot; when you interact with said spot, the floor will change. If you use Revelio near the reflection of a statue, it will reveal the whole statue. This will then prompt a conversation between the protagonist and Fig, where Fig will teach you Lumos. Using the spell to line up the Statue with its reflection will cause it to come alive and call for backup.
The three statues will then attack, and you will then be promoted to use Protego; this spell can block attacks. You will then have to block three of the statues’ attacks. After successfully doing so, you will have to defeat the statues using Basic Casting and Protego.
The Professor will then suddenly vanish, leaving the protagonist alone in the chamber. As you move, you will notice sparks appearing. What direction the sparks fly in will lead to the next shining spot and the next statue puzzle you will have to solve.
You will need to reveal three statues using Revelio and then teach them up using Lumos. This will be difficult as you will need to get close while having the spell ready, and then you will have to move them into position with the reflections that follow the light rather than the Statue itself.
After you have successfully fended off the first few statues, you will then learn the spell Stupefy. This spell can be used as a counterattack after successfully blocking an attack with Protego. Stupefy will then stun the enemy momentarily. After successfully stunning three statues, you will then move on to the next part of the puzzle.
Follow the sparks again until you see a third shining spot; this will create a portal you will need to interact with. When you enter the portal, you will see a strange pendant floating above a Pensieve. Professor Fig will finally reappear and explain how a Pensieve works before finding a strand of memory inside the floating pendant. The Professor will then pour the memory into the bowl, and you will get to see Charles Rookwood and Percival Rackham discussing the creation of this place and ancient magic.
However, this is sadly cut short as Percival Rackham murders the Goblin Banker and attempts to snatch the pendant. This triggers the security system, which summons a giant knight statue that attacks Ranrok and his men. The protagonist and Fig find a way out and discover that the vault is somehow connected to Hogwarts.
You are given a stern reprimand from Headmaster Black, and after that, you are then escorted to the sorting ceremony by Professor Weasley. You will then have to choose your House and are then taken to the common room, finishing the introduction.
