After you finish this part of Hogwarts Legacy, you won’t need any more walkthroughs.
After your action-packed outing, you will now have to investigate Ancient Magic and uncover the secrets within Hogwarts Castle. In order to do this, you will have to break into the Library’s restricted section. Here you will also learn about the game’s stealth mechanics and speak some quality time with Slytherin student, Sebastian Sallow.
You will start by speaking to Professor Fig, and telling him about the Troll attack that happened when you were in Hogsmeade. The professor will then tell you that he has uncovered a hidden map of Hogwarts that was concealed within the locket by a powerful enchantment. However, Fig cannot figure out where the map leads to. What the professor doesn’t know is that our protagonists can actually see the traces of Ancient Magic that show that something is in the Restricted Section of the Library. The professor tells you to speak with professor Hecat on the matter as Fig fears that it may be too dangerous.
Professor Hecat’s Assignment
When you go to professor Hecat, they want to teach you the Incendio spell. Before you learn the spell, however, you will need to win two rounds of Crossed Wands. Along with the small minigame, you will also need to complete the spell combination practice tasks for Lucan Brattleby. You tell the professor of the unsanctioned dueling club and much to your surprise the professor is well aware of it.
As for Crossed Wands, it is a rather simple minigame. You have to use Levioso to break yellow shields on a pair of targets. To make it easier for yourself, consider using the combination of Protego and Stupefy to keep knocking your opponents off balance.
For Lucan Brattleby’s spell practice, you will have to string together a combination of spells that will help you use your magic more effectively in combat. This is also a great way to practice your timing and to see how long you can keep an opponent knocked down. If you mess up a combo, don’t worry, the game gives you a retry if you mess up.
During the second round, you will have the choice of either going at it alone or picking a partner, which is the preferable option as you will be outnumbered 3 to 1. You will also be introduced to enemies that have violet shields, these types of shields are easily broken with force spells, meaning spells like Accio will be your best option. Remember to use Protego and have your Accio spell ready.
What’s you’ve completed your tasks, head back to Hecat and they will teach you the Incendio spell. This spell will allow you to cast a short-range fire blast. While it doesn’t have the best range, use Accio to bring your enemies closer.
The Forbidden Section of the Library
Now that you have Incendio and can now burn your enemies alive, return to Professor Fig so you can prepare for your trip to the Forbidden Section of the Library. However, Headmaster Black interrupts your conversation and Professor Fig has to leave. You can now use this as bounding time with Sebastian, who is very much all for breaking into the Library.
You meet up with Sebastian at night, in Central Hall. Sebastian will teach you the Disillusionment Charm, this spell will come in handy as it will make you momentarily transparent and practically invisible to other characters unless you get too close.
Sneaking into the Forbidden Section of the Library serves as the introduction to the game’s stealth mechanics. You will have to avoid getting caught by some of the school’s Prefects as you make your way to the school’s Library. Once inside follow Sebastian’s instructions and hide behind a bookcase, then wait for his cue to steal the key.
You will eventually meet up with Sebastian again and both of you can now head deeper into the Library. Be wary as ghosts are lurking inside, Use Basic Cast to distract the first ghost into the hallway, away from the entrance, and slip in behind them. For the next ghost, once again, use Basic Cast to lure it away from the door and head through, ignore the chest as you will learn the spell to unlock it much later.
You no longer have to worry about your Disillusionment Charm, as once you’ve made it to the bottom of the stairs, Sebastian will tell you why he comes to the Forbidden Section so often. He reveals that he’s trying to find a cure for his sister’s mysterious illness.
This tender moment is ruined by Peeves, who Sebastian chases in order to stop him from telling the Librarian. Sadly, this means you will be alone for the rest of the mission. Use Reparo to repair the broken statue that’s blocking your way.
There’s a chest just before you head through the door and down the stairs to a strange archway. The archway is activated by the glowing Ancient Magic spot. This is will open a path forward and towards your left of the archway, you will find a chest that holds some very good loot.
You will find another chest when you head through the portal and down the stairs, it can be found left of a door that leads further in. Head through this door and you will see a giant chasm that has a door on the other side. Use Basic Cast on the rune above the door to reveal the path forward. Be prepared as in the next room you will fight more knight statues, the same as the ones you encountered in Vault 12.
After the encounter with the knights, you will be given a quick tutorial that explains that you can restore Ancient Magic by successfully performing spell combos. In the next room, players will find themselves in a bit of a tough spot as they’ll be stuck on a precarious ledge with enemies. You can use Levioso and Basic Cast to easily knock enemies off. There will be a hidden chest on your left side, use Lumos to reveal the hidden pathway.
Shoot the Rune and prepare to sprint across as you will need to make a jump and the path won’t be there for very long. When you are in the next room, head down the stairs and shoot the rune and jump to the platform that will appear on your right. Cast Lumos and head down the path that appears and shoot at the rune again, continue down the path and you’ll find a chest.
Head back to the room and use the rune to create a path across but keep moving. Grab the chests and be ready for some more combat with the knight statues. Remember to knock them off the edge.
You will finally find the book you were looking for, as well as a Pensieve that will show you more memories of Percival Rackham. The memories show them using Ancient Magic to help a village that was suffering from drought. You will also see their conversation that they had with someone who joined as a 5th-year student, a girl called Isidora Morganach who could see Ancient Magic. You head back to the Library and meet up with Sebastian who has covered for the both of you.
You complete this section by heading to Professor Fig, who is leaving for the Ministry of Magic. He takes the book with him to study.
