Warner Bros. has broken an interesting record, having the top 3 spots in the box office. A feat never done before.
Warner Bros. has had a crazy year. Barbie became their highest-grossing film ever earlier this summer and shattered expectations. Barbie has gone on to make over $1 billion at the box office. But the year isn’t over yet, and Warner Bros. has broken more records.
Warner Bros. has broken a rare record. The record is to have the top three films at the box office simultaneously made by the same studio. The top three films at the box office right now are Warner Brothers films. Not only is it a big feat, but it’s also interesting that this happened around Christmas time. Christmas time is not known for bringing in a ton of people at the box office.
The films in the top three were The Color Purple with $18 million, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom at $10.6 million, and Wonka at $10.3 million. There are a variety of films, two of which are musicals, and one is a superhero action film.
Along with some good, there is some bad for the year in review of Warner Brothers. They did have The Flash and Blue Beetle flop at the box office. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is also falling short of box office expectations. But Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the end of the current DC extended universe. Ending with a slump.
But ending the year on a high note like this is something the Warner Brothers are excited about. The Color Purple is dominating right now, as its success was a surprise. The Color Purple is also one of the best Christmas openings of all time. Sitting in second place on the all-time Christmas opening day behind Sherlock Holmes.
