Cinemas will have a nice boost coming with Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s concert films.
Following a great summer blockbuster season, we are still looking at big showings in theaters, but not for movies, but for concert films. This isn’t anything new, as bands like Metallica have done theater concert films in previous years. This was also a big thing during COVID for many artists. But with the success of Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour film, it seems that other artists will do the same.
The Taylor Swift concert film has yet to hit theaters as it is releasing on October 13, but all the pre-sales have shattered many expectations and broken a handful of records. Many theaters and drive-ins are having more screens than usual for just one film to be shown. This is also something that’s happening for Beyoncé‘s concert film, which is slated to come out in December of this year. The new Exorcist film also moved its release date, as it was originally scheduled to come out the same day as Taylor Swift‘s The Eras Tour film.
It seems Taylor Swift is on top of the world right now, being on the news nonstop for her tours and her appearances at football games. This concert film might be one of many for Taylor Swift. It isn’t her first time on the big screen, as she has had acting roles in films such as Amsterdam from 2022.
It’s only a matter of time until this becomes a more regular thing for artists. Theaters have opened up the option for some sporting events to be played in their theaters, and the option of renting out a theater, in general, has been popular since COVID. It seems theaters are having more and more options for different mediums to be viewed beyond standard movies. Maybe the future holds more concert films for theaters, but it’s keeping those same struggling theaters afloat.
