The Oscars have added a new category for best casting in a film.
The Oscars have added a new category for the first time since 2001. We saw the Golden Globes add the best box office achievement recently, and the Oscars are adding a new category of their own. It will be interesting to see if the Golden Globes add the same nomination for best-casted film. The Golden Globes include TV shows, so they could also include that nomination for TV shows as well.
This seems to be a long time coming, as in 2013, the Academy added a branch for casting directors. With 150 strong, it seems that this helped push towards the nomination category at the Academy Awards.
We will have to wait until next year to see the nomination for best casting in a film, as the nominations have already been built and unveiled for the awards this year. It’s safe to say that if it had been added earlier, we would’ve seen Barbie and Oppenheimer get into this category. Both of those films had multiple nominations at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
The timing is interesting, seeing as the Oscars announced their nominations for this year‘s awards pretty recently. It seems that they could’ve added to this category a couple months ago and then added it to this year’s awards.
Many people have their complaints with the Oscars, and it seems that one of the big ones is how long the show goes. With the addition of another category, it seems that those complaints won’t go away anytime soon. Many people only watch it to see three or four awards given out. Most of the time, it’s the best actor, actress, or picture. I think a lot of people just wait and catch the highlights later on YouTube or social media.
This year’s Oscars are slated for March 10th, with no Will Smith slap this time around.
