The Last of Us Season 2’s storyline sparks theories from photo set.
The Last of Us season 2 production is in full swing and HBO’s showrunner, Craig Mazin, has had quite a vague response to the circulating theories from fans in regards to a leaked set of photos.
Starting as a video game set in a post-apocalyptic world where cannibalized humans infected by fungi ravage what’s left of humanity, while the survivors must fight to survive a harsh and ever-changing world with different types of infected enemies to deal with; this game took the gaming community by storm while sparking interesting the world over. Now, in the present day and the critically acclaimed game has its foot in the entertainment industry.
Created by Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the critically acclaimed The Last of Us TV series enters its second season with filming having started in Vancouver, Canada on February 12, after the industry strikes caused some understandable production delays, with the rapping-up date set for August 21.
With Season 1 of The Last of Us following and massively expanding upon the story’s world and characters of the award-winning video game, Season 2 will be following the narrative of the game’s more controversial sequel, The Last of Us Part 2. Because of the complex story of The Last of Us Part 2, fans are curious about how the show’s second season may adapt the materials to fit the show, with some fans developing theories that believe the series will change the narrative structure.
On March 12, Mazin returned to his podcast “scriptnotes”, being co-hosted with John August, Mazin went on to provide an update on how The Last of Us season 2’s filming was coming along. He went on to say that he’s nearly done directing the first episode of the season, while also hinting that a few days are left in different locations, Though he has not shied away from taking a closer look at the internet and it’s “clever” fans, with fans putting the pieces together and creating theories on what may be to come.
Based on leaked set pictures, fans have started to make theories on what will happen in the coming season, with Mazin’s peek at what fans have to say or come up with, he found this fun, stating that “I wish I could put my arm around each of them and say ‘No.’ ” Further stating that “most of the theories are incorrect, some of them are half ways correct.” Mazin also added that “some of the conjecture is like 28% correct.” And he is really enjoying it all, finding the speculations as fun as the fans do.
Mazin has continued to say that while he’s done with his directing duties for the time being, he’s enjoying sitting back in his showrunner role and watching the second episode unfold. Either way, with The Last of Us season 2 under way, fans and the director have much to look forward to while finding joy in fan speculations.
