The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes opened with 99 million in its first weekend, competing against the new Trolls and Thanksgiving horror movie.
This past weekend saw the release of a couple of new big films. So once again, we had a competitive opening weekend at the box office. It seems this year we have had a decent amount of those, and it’s nice to see that competition again. But this one wasn’t as much of a competition as The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes opened with $99 million. With the high production value, this is good for the film, as it looks to return to its complete production value relatively soon. The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes will make a good argument to make more prequels for the Hunger Games series.
The film is a prequel to the long-running main-line series that starred Jennifer Lawrence. After years of hype, The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes is out, and it’s performing well. It had its competitors, though. It would’ve been a close fight with the new Marvel film coming out, The Marvels. But as we all know, The Marvels did not do well at the box office and had the worst opening weekend for any MCU film ever. Over this past weekend, The Marvels added around $20 million to its box office run, and it’s a little over $100 million worldwide right now.
This past weekend, The Five Nights at Freddy’s film became the highest-grossing horror film of the year, surpassing The Nun 2. The Five Nights at Freddy’s film now has $271 million at the box office. It is also Blumhouse’s second-highest-grossing film right now. This is a commendable achievement, as the film debuted on the Peacock streaming service the same day it came out in theaters, which would deter a good number of people from seeing it in theaters.
With another good box office weekend in the books, the theaters continue to have a good year, and let’s hope it continues.
