The Oscars and Golden Globes now have awards for blockbuster movies and stand-up comedies.
After years of debate, there is finally an award at the Golden Globes and Oscars for blockbuster films and stand-up comedy. Many people have been upset that none of the films that become blockbusters end up getting any nominations, such as big action or superhero movies. However, over the last few years, we have seen some people get nominated and win in superhero movies. One of the more popular is Heath Ledger, who won Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight at the Oscars.
But with massive blockbuster films coming out this year, such as Barbie and Oppenheimer, we’re seeing there is an abundance of these that deserve to be recognized by the academy. With that, it will give more recognition to films that otherwise would’ve never been at the Academy Awards, such as Star Wars or Fast and Furious movies. We will see these new awards go into effect next year at the Oscars and Golden Globes.
On the other end, both are adding nominations for stand-up comedies. The only notable nomination before this for stand-up comedians was the Grammys, which would give out awards for stand-up comedy acts that were released via the audio form.
Of course, this is a big move in the right direction. This can open the doors for many other genres of films to be nominated and have their category. For example, one of the more popular genres of film that tends to get overlooked at the awards is horror films.
Some of those might end up getting into the blockbuster category, but we might end up seeing horror having its category at the Academy Awards or Golden Globes very soon. The Academy Awards could take note of the Grammy Awards, where they have many different nominations for various genres of that art form.
