Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour performed phenomenally at the box office, but will the trend continue?
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film film is breaking records, as expected. It’s already shattering records for concert films. In its first weekend, it’s become the highest-grossing concert film ever in the United States. It opened with $92 million at the US and Canadian box offices. The previous record holder was Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never concert film in 2011, which made $30 million on its first weekend. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is already on par to pass Justin Bieber‘s concert film’s complete worldwide box office gross in the coming weeks.
It’s been a massive year for movie theaters. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is continuing where Barbie and Oppenheimer left off this summer. It’s also bridging the gap between delayed films due to the SAG and writers’ strikes. This, in turn, will keep another massive movie in theaters for the time being.
Later this year, in December, Beyoncé is set to release her concert film. Ironically, it’s making movies move their release dates, just like Taylor Swift’s concert film. It seems other movies are seeing how massive these concert films are, and don’t want to risk being beaten out by them on the same day.
With all this being said, more than likely, more concert films will be coming out. Especially if Beyoncé‘s concert film is anywhere near as popular as Taylor Swift’s. Concert films are nothing new, but the theaters will need all the help they can get with all the movie delays. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film was only announced a few months ago, so we can expect other artists to announce their concert films soon and come out shortly after.
