Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, took over $20 million on its opening weekend.
The concert film trend continues. Taylor Swift’s concert film did very well in its opening weekend and worldwide gross. Around that same time, we heard news of Beyoncé coming out with a concert film of her own. And now that it’s out, we can see that it’s doing very well and will continue to do well as the weeks go on.
It is not surprising that Taylor Swift has kicked off a new trend of concert films. With ticket prices for concerts being very high and Ticketmaster having incredible fees, it’s no wonder people would rather go to a theater to watch a broadcast concert. Many people are going to theaters to get exclusive merchandise such as popcorn boxes, cups, shirts, and more.
While Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé came out a couple of months after the Taylor Swift film, it would’ve been funny to see them both playing in theaters at the same time. Taylor Swift had a big following with drive-ins playing her film, and it looks like Beyoncé is trying to do the same. It might be close to seeing who makes the most money between Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, but we do know the Taylor Swift concert film did phenomenally at the box office.
But Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé did put up a good fight on a stacked box office weekend. Napoleon, the new biopic film, is still doing well in theaters and was a great competitor for the box office number one spot. Let’s also not forget the new Hunger Games film and the new Trolls film. They are still doing fairly well with their continued run at the box office.
People will draw a comparison between the Taylor Swift concert film and Renaissance. One thing that sets them apart is the trend of people going to see them. It appears that a more diverse number of people are going to see Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, compared to Taylor Swift’s concert film. A lot of that might be because Taylor Swift’s film was a more family-friendly film compared to Beyoncé’s concert film.
Renaissance: a Beyoncé film, is doing well at the box office, which means we will be seeing more concert films soon.
