Oppenheimer wins multiple Golden Globes, including Best Drama Picture of the Year and Best Actor.
Both Oppenheimer and Barbie were the talk of the town in the movie world last year, and this year they have won Golden Globes, respectively. Oppenheimer won multiple awards, including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Motion Drama, and Best Director for Christopher Nolan. Barbie won the Best Original Song and the Best Achievement in a Blockbuster Film, which was a new category this year.
There was another new category this year, which was for best live stand-up comedy special, which Ricky Gervais won for his stand-up special. Oppenheimer and Barbie shook up the box office last year, so I am not surprised that both of them ended up getting a couple of awards. It’s not always common for a film to make $1 billion at the box office and sweep the Golden Globes. It’s usually more art-house films that end up sweeping the Golden Globes and Oscars. It’ll be interesting to see if this trend continues with the Oscars, which will be happening later this year.
A lot of the talk of the town post-show is about host Jo Koy and his bad hosting. A lot of people seemed to not appreciate the jokes he had, and he got booed multiple times during the show. Usually, the Golden Globes have had Ricky Gervais host, but this year, I think they wanted to play it safe.
I don’t know anyone who watches the award shows besides people who are hyper-fixated on certain actors or actresses. It seems a majority of people have stopped tuning in for these award shows. The Golden Globes and the Oscars need to figure out some way to connect with their audience better. It seems like every year they have cringe moments and frustrated people across the world ranting online about the award show.
