Tom Cruise’s newest Mission Impossible is making a big summer splash.
The latest Mission Impossible is a two-parter, but that didn’t stop everyone from going and seeing it. Dead Reckoning is shaping up to be a solid summer blockbuster, with the series itself showing no signs of slowing down, and might be the summer’s biggest hit. Weeks ago, we saw that the new Indiana Jones film, Dial of Destiny didn’t perform up to the expectation of a summer blockbuster, another older series making a new sequel. Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning is performing well for a franchise that began in 1996 and is on its seventh entry.
But what made Mission Impossible have a more solid showing than other average summer action films? Some of it might be the insane press that Tom Cruise has been doing the last few weeks. Cruise has been going to premiers and special showings of the new Mission Impossible across the world, surprising fans.
He’s been doing a tour of sorts, trying his best to support local theaters and support the fans who still go see movies in theaters. Of course, at the end of showings, Cruise would hang out with fans, answering questions and giving out selfies and autographs. This kind of personal touch and good press might’ve helped people want to go see the new film.
Tom Cruise has also become an unsung hero for theaters after Top Gun Maverick saved theaters during the pandemic. He has come out multiple times supporting and urging fans to go to theaters. He has gone on spreading the word about seeing films in theaters during this press tour as well.
However, this press tour was stopped short as the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) went on strike. All actors in the union cannot work on or promote their films during the strike. It seems that Cruise might have just timed all his good press and surprise showings, knowing something was brewing very soon.
