The new Gal Gadot film, Heart of Stone, seems to be another average Netflix action film.
This week Netflix dropped its newest original film, Heart of Stone. This film stars Gal Gadot, who is known for playing Wonder Woman in recent years. Gal Gadot seems to be trying to shake the stigma of being just known for the superhero she plays. Heart of Stone is the first film since Wonder Woman 1984 that Gadot is the top-billed star.
The film itself falls into the generic original Netflix action category. There are plenty of good Netflix films that come to critical and audience acclaim. But in the action genre, there are many that seem to be forgotten about relatively soon. Heart of Stone is sitting at low ratings on both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes currently. Many of the reviews say the same thing about the film being a run-of-the-mill action film. Nothing more, nothing less.
Over the last few years there have been other projects Netflix made that seemed to have bad reviews and become quickly forgotten about. I believe many people can remember the big projects Netflix has put out like Wednesday or Stranger Things, but will have a hard time remembering projects like Heart of Stone.
For example, last year, we had The Gray Man, which had a star-studded cast with Ryan Gosling and Ana De Armas, but it seemed to fall into the same issue Heart of Stone has. The Gray Man fell low in reviews and Ryan Gosling fans have completely forgotten about it following Barbie’s success.
Netflix seems to always be putting new content and might just be going off quantity and not quality for better or worse. A lot of their movies end up becoming popular and watched highly the first few weeks they are out. But it seems that if it’s not in theaters, it might just not have the same effect. Heart of Stone’s action could have really benefited from being seen on the big screen and not the home screen.
