The Golden Globes Nominees were announced today, with Barbie leading the pack.
It has been a massive year for movies, and the Golden Globes are stacked with fan favorites. This year we saw major box office hits, such as Barbie, Oppenheimer, Taylor Swift’s concert film, and more. With that being said, Barbie leads the pack with the most nominations at the Golden Globes, with nine. Oppenheimer is a close second with eight nominations. Barbie even has multiple nominations in certain categories, such as Best Original Song. Records broken include Meryl Streep breaking her record for most nominations ever for an actress.
A Barbie sweep might be incoming, but along with that, the film’s director got their first nomination ever. Greta Gerwig, the director of the Barbie film, was nominated for best director at the Golden Globes. This is a unique nomination, as female directors don’t get the nomination often. But like the stacked year, we have other films getting multiple nominations, such as Killers of the Flower Moon and Oppenheimer.
It seems rare when we have massive blockbuster films that end up getting multiple nominations. But this year is a different year, as both Barbie and Oppenheimer are looking at being possible Golden Globe winners.
We got Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy nominated for Best Actor in a Drama at the Golden Globes. We also got Margot, Robbie, and Ryan Gosling nominated in their respective categories as best actor and actress in a comedy. Ryan Gosling even got nominated for his song “I’m Just Ken” in the original song category.
This year is also the first year for the new category of box office achievement. These other blockbuster films have a chance to be nominated for an award, such as John Wick’s Chapter 4, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, and the Super Mario Bros. movie.
The award show might end up being one of the most watched ones they’ve had in years due to the massive number of popular films being nominated. This is great because a lot of people complain that the films being nominated are the ones that no one has heard of. We will have to see if Barbie will continue its dominance at the awards next year.
